They are perhaps the most flexible piece of furniture you could own, since one moment they can serve as a lovely end table, but when guests are over or the holidays roll around, you have additional table space for appetizers, drinks and the usual overflow of desserts.

They are a great solution for the bedroom too, replacing the traditional nightstand with a much more useful and versatile stack of matching tables that can either be stacked out of sight and out of mind bedside or used throughout the room, tying in the décor with matching tables that can always be nested again on a moment's notice.

Even more elementary than a style of an end table, is what type of look does the customer like and will it work scale wise in the living room. End tables or side tables as they are sometimes called, can be made square, round, rectangular, oval, or even octagonal. Then there are side tables that nest into each other, meaning they stack over a small end table to save space, but can be brought out and placed around the room as needed. These nesting tables are great for smaller condos and living spaces. Or they come in larger scaled nesting tables for larger environments like a great room, but the designer still like the clean uncluttered look of using nesting table.

These can work well in a bedroom too, if you want a different look than the traditional pair of matched nightstands. If space is at a premium, you can go with a single drum table instead, allowing you to have a place to put your lamp and clock while still having lots of storage down below.

If you want to have a lamp on it along with leaving enough room for someone to set a drink or plate down, you probably want to go with an end table and not an accent table, which is smaller in scale and dimensions.

The original designs consisted of three to four small tables that could be stacked one upon the other. As time went on, designers also figured out that they could also be stored one under another, creating a piece of furniture that offered maximum space in a very small package.

Selecting an end table is simply a matter of choice, and there are plenty of end tables and accent tables to choose from. The unique thing about choosing an end table, as opposed to other pieces of furniture, is the fact that it not only has to match the furniture you already have, but it also has to fit in the space you have. Unlike coffee tables, end tables must be squeezed in at the end of a couch or in between chairs. They provide an additional space for glasses, lamps, books, and anything else you might want to set there. An end table can be a magazine rack or just a small table for a lamp. It can be an accent feature in the room, or it can just be an elegant addition. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Whenever you get new round end tables for the living room, you can re purpose the old ones in other rooms, adding a new table to your master, a kid's room or even a bathroom. Not only a great use of your old furniture, but very Eco-friendly too.

There's no standardization for furniture, and you want to get a table that doesn't extend above the edge of your furniture or is so low that someone has to precariously reach over a sofa arm in order to set down their plate or glass.

An end-table could also be a complimentary addition to your dining room, bedroom, entertainment room, entryway or foyer. If you require storage space as well as surface area you can avail of an end table that has drawers or cabinet space. You could also procure an end-table with shelves, if you need additional room to display keepsakes or artwork.
