To the kind attention: National IYPE Committee Chairperson, Dear Sir, The first ever Congress for early career Earth scientists will be held at the University of Geosciences of Beijing, China on October 25-28, 2009. The Congress will mark the accumulation of work carried out by a dedicated group of young Earth scientists since the launch of the International Year of Planet Earth. The Congress aims to address two key objectives of the IYPE: making earth science knowledge accessible to society and promoting the education of younger Earth scientists. The Congress will focus on scientists and professionals working in
the field of earth sciences who are younger than 35. The Congress will
also include younger political leaders, representatives of civil society,
and worldwide associations to create a dynamic network across disciplines
to address the challenges of our time. A key goal of the Congress is
to establish an international network of Young Earth Scientists (World
Young Earth Scientists network (Y.E.S.). Additionally, while this meeting
will focus on Scientific abstracts for the Congress are currently being accepted for the oral and poster presentations that are structured around the IYPE Earth Sciences for Society themes - Groundwater, Geo-hazards, Earth & Health, Climate, Resources, Mega-cities, Deep Earth, Oceans, Soils, Earth & Life. The Congress will not only include presentations and key note speakers, but also a series of roundtables focusing on topics of global scientific and social significance. We especially encourage presentations that provide innovative insights to these themes from young scientists and professionals under the age of 35 who are working in the field of Earth sciences. Additionally, we are interested in presentations that propose solutions that are applicable across a range of scales (local to global) We kindly request the support of your National IYPE Committee in disseminating the information about the Congress to organizations and individuals who are involved in the field of Earth science. I have attached a copy of the first circular for your review. Additional information about the Congress is available at www.yescongress2009.org In particular we ask your National IYPE Committee to:
